Rock Climbing

Some of our trails leave you face-to-face with the rock

Rock climbing has become very popular in Ontario over the last number of years. And no wonder – there thousands of cliffs, bluffs and crags for climbers to test their skills. In southern Ontario, most of them run along the Niagara Escarpment, which runs from Niagara Falls up to the tip of Tobermory. Climbers are familiar with Rattlesnake Point, Mount Nemo, Old Baldy and Bon Echo.

The other well-known region is north of Superior especially around Lake Nipigon, Batchawana Bay, Montreal River and Agawa. Here, climbing faces have been found as high as 260 metres.

Many rock climbers make it a four-season sport with ice climbing in the winter. And as you might expect, Ontario offers great ice climbing experiences.

If you're a beginner, there are now many indoor rock-climbing gyms and numerous clubs throughout the province to help you get started.
