Trails in Canada’s capital region take in historic sites, rivers, canals and Mounties too! You can meander along the banks of the historic Rideau Canal and watch boats being lifted by hand-operated locks dating back to 1832.
You’ll see Canada’s Parliament Buildings and numerous museums and cultural attractions.
Or head out into the country of the Ottawa Valley along scenic country roads and under the canopy of old growth forests. You’ll come across old logging roads and rail trails.
This is a favorite region for cyclists, whether you’re looking for paved trails or off-road mountain biking.
Trails in other parts of the region take you through marshes, along the rivers that flow into the Ottawa River and past many waterfalls.
This is also a perfect four-season region with plenty of snow in the winter for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking and snowmobiling.
