Northumberland Forest
The NCF is MULTI-USE forest, meaning the trails in the forest are used simultaneously by many different groups. Some of the current recreational activities pursued in the forest are:
- Cross Country Skiing
- Snowmobiling
- Hiking, Dog Walking and Orienteering (see Hogsback trail below)
- Horse Back Riding
- Mountain Biking
- Hunting (when in season as per MNR regulations)
- All Terrain Vehicles (ATV´s) and Dirt Bikes
Some guidelines to keep in mind are:
- Respect private property
- Respect the right of others to use the trail
- Respect protected areas by staying on existing trails and obeying barriers and fences
- Motorized snowmobiles must not exceed 50 km/hr and other motorized vehicles must not exceed 40km/hr
- No dumping of garbage or littering as per Northumberland County bylaw 09-02, with a maximum fine of up to $5000 (click here to find out more about illegal dumping)
- No smoking or campfires
- Pets must be kept on a leash as per the Alnwick Haldimand bylaw 57-2003- Animals running at large/License and Regulate
- Pet owners must also stoop and scoop as per the Alnwick Haldimand bylaw 27-2001-Removal of dog excrement
- No cutting of trees for firewood is allowed in the Northumberland County Forest
- No collection of tree tops from logging operations is allowed

Hogsback Area (green trail) - steep climb up the hogsback leads to an elevated area, giving trail users a beautiful view of the forest. Resting station located near the top of the hogback. A colour coded trail map gives trail users the best overview of the network of trails.
