Nawautin Nature Sanctuary and Wetland Trail

This 5.31 hectare sanctuary shelters a wide variety of wildlife including deer, fox, beaver, rabbits and birds. Discover a small covered bridge, several ponds, waterfront parks and a pebbly beach that slopes gradually to Lake Ontario. Accessible from the Estate of Nawautin Shores, Lakeshore Road, south of Grafton.

Northumberland County is home to the two long distance trails which make up the southern portion of the COLT: the Ganaraska Hiking Trail and the Waterfront Trail. Northumberland features a portion of the Trans Canada Trail (intersecting COLT) which includes the Hastings to Hoards Station abandoned CN rail line. We would love to send you a free topographical map outlining this special section of the Trans Canada Trail.

Adjacent to Nawautin is the Waterfront Trail paralleling the north shore of Lake Ontario which constitutes mainly quiet back roads throughout Northumberland County.
