What is Geocaching?

Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Players navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location.

Players from Ontario and across the globe come here to find geocaches in scenic locations as well as locations that are close to where they happen to be.  The game is generally played outdoors in any kind of weather throughout the year.   There is no such thing as bad weather only a bad choice in clothing.

The game started in May of 2000 and has grown in popularity since then.  Of the 184 countries that have geocaches Canada is the third most active country behind the United States and Germany.   As of 2013 there are 2,000,000+ active geocaches and 160,000 of them are in Canada.  Ontario has approximately 30,000 active geocaches and about 35,000 geocachers.
