Big Brothers Big Sisters is holding their 2nd annual Big Little Run to bring the community together with a focus on promoting a healthy and active lifestyle – all while benefiting at-risk youth. This exciting 5km trail race will take place on Sunday, August 30th at 9:30am, in University of Guelph’s own historic Arboretum.
The race is professionally chip-timed on a fairly flat, well- marked course where runners can try for their personal best while racing through the magnificent trees, specialized gardens and botanical collections of the Arboretum. The nature-themed race features fantastic prizes, a silent auction and a great after-party and awards ceremony.
New for this summer, organizers added a 2.5km pledge-based walk component as well, to encourage non-runners to fundraise and walk part of the course with family, friends, and coworkers. All proceeds will go towards Big Brothers Big Sisters Go Girls! & Game On! youth programs, which focus on physical activity, balanced eating and self-esteem, while setting kids on a path to reach their full potential in life.
“The Big Little Run is a great event that we’re proud to continue to share with this community,” said Executive Director Heather Fowler. “It’s a unique opportunity for dedicated runners, casual athletes and families to participate in together in a beautiful, natural surrounding. We appreciate all the generous individuals and businesses who continue to support this event and the children we serve.”
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guelph is the city’s largest youth mentoring charity, providing more than 500 at-risk children with a role model, a mentor and a friend. Established in 1976, the charity facilitates both one-on-one and group based mentoring programs, serving the communities of Guelph, Aberfoyle, Rockwood, Morriston and Puslinch.
