SOIceFest is a non-profit initiative. It is now led by the Ontario Alliance of Climbers and run with two goals in mind:
1. Connect and Grow the Southern Ontario climbing community
2. Give Back to the local communities in the greater Bancroft area
We're excited to see old friends and make new ones. Come climb at Diamond Lake, register for a clinic, demo some new toys or check out the climbing in surrounding areas. Afterwards, join us at the Arlington for more fun and games. We've got loads of prizes from our sponsors and an exciting lineup for the evening!
History
SOIceFest 0 (2015) was an informal affair. It celebrated all things that are great about ice climbing, brought the existing community together in one place and demonstrated Southern Ontario's desire for a strong and healthy community.
SOIceFest 01 (2016) built upon the success of the previous year. The community opened its arms to those intrigued by ice climbing. Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) guides were invited to lead beginner clinics and offered instruction to those with a desire to refine their skills. Building upon the notion of strong and healthy communities developed the previous year, the climbing community, sponsors and donors rallied to raise over $1,000 for Community Care North Hastings's TROUT Program, helping connect residents living outside Bancroft connect with the amenities and services in the town's centre.
SOIceFest 02 (2017) saw increased interest from climbers from both far and near. Local interest also grew with many driving up from Bancroft to see what ice climbing is all about. The clinics were full and memorable! We exceeded our goals and came together to support the TROUT Program with an astounding $2,640.
SOIceFest 03 (2018) saw great representation from both climbing companies and the local climbing community. More than 250 climbers attended the event, and were treated to two screenings (Generation Dry on Friday and Mixtress on Saturday), as well as a memorable dinner at the Maynooth Community Centre. Funds raised were directed to support Children’s Programming in Maynooth. Since SOIceFest1, over $5500 was raised.
SOIceFest 04 (2019) will be bigger and better!
Organizers
Andriy Kolos, Josh Smith and Peter Hoang are passionate climbers based in Southern Ontario. They're professionals during the day, and dreamers at night - and like you the ultimate weekend warriors! They enjoy every discipline climbing has to offer and between them have travelled the world, climbing peaks and exploring crags along the way. They are happy to call Ontario home and delighted with the warm welcome Maynooth offers every time they visit.
In addition to the lead organizers are multiple volunteers who help make the event happen. They're committed to helping before, during and after the event. Truly a team effort! Thanks! If you'd like to offer your time and energy, send us a note through one of our social media channels.
