Live a fun day out in the woods at the Larose Forest. The United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR) invites the population to attend a community day during which an array of family activities will be available from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the Larose Forest Concession 11 parking lot. The UCPR will also take this opportunity to inaugurate, at 10:30 a.m., the Henri Latreille shelter, to unveil the new Larose Forest logo and to launch its Heritage Tree Poster Contest. The history of the village of Grant, tree identification, logging history, nature walk, bird watching, mushroom identification and several other points of interest will be highlighted during guided walks that will be held throughout the day. As well, interactive games will appeal to kids. These activities will be conducted in both official languages.Several local organizations will set up displays on the many recreational activities available in Larose Forest, such as dog-sledding, ATV riding, hiking, skiing, bird-watching, etc.A first activity of the kind was held last fall to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Larose Forest. The UCPR thought it would be a good idea to organize it again this year with a more varied program. “This year, the day will offer even more family activities that will please both the young and the young at heart,” said Louis Prévost, director, Planning and Forestry at the United Counties of Prescott and Russell.Visitors are asked to dress appropriately and should bring their binoculars for the bird-watching and nature walks. A barbecue lunch will be available for a nominal cost between 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Participants should confirm their attendance ahead of time to allow the organizers to plan accordingly: 613-487-4103, 1-800-667-6307, extension 7101 or mbesner@prescott-russell.on.ca.
