Nature at it’s best! The Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre in Midland, Ontario invites you to leap into a natural experience you will always remember. The Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre is a not-for-profit, environmental awareness facility dedicated to operating year-round programs. Our goal is to develop awareness, enjoyment and understanding of the environment and wildlife.
We are open every day and invite you to come and experience the Marsh. Come to Wye Marsh and enjoy the fresh air as you canoe through the marsh or just take a leisurely walk in the woods. There are many interesting short trails for the novice “stroller” or longer trails for the more hardy “hikers”. If you prefer, you can take a guided walk with one of our Outdoor Educators, who can discuss many points of interest. We also offer snowshoeing and 25KM of cross country ski trails (groomed and track-set) for all skill levels throughout the winter months.
Wye Marsh is designated as an Important Bird Area and is home to an amazing diversity of bird species. Wye Marsh provides nesting habitat to some uncommon species such as Least Bittern, Black Tern and the Trumpeter Swan. Moreover Wye Marsh is also one of the best places to observe the habits of a number of mammals such as beaver, porcupine, mink and river otter. Turtles, frogs and snakes abound and are often seen basking on warm summer days. There are also a number of live, native amphibians and reptiles in our display hall.
We are fortunate to have a number of majestic Trumpeter Swans make their home in the waters of Wye Marsh. Many are here year-round and can be seen from the walking berms or from our observation tower. The Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre started with one captive pair of swans in the late 1980’s and thanks to the dedicated work of staff and volunteers, we now care for and monitor one-third of the wild population and there are now over 1,000 Trumpeters in Ontario.
The Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre offers year round enjoyment in a beautiful, natural setting and we’re open every day to “entice, educate and enlighten you”. From January to December, Watch for special guided hikes through the marsh and our largest events of the year, Sweetwater Harvest, Wye Marsh Fundraising Dinner and the Wye Marsh Festival. Wye Marsh festival is an environmental celebration that offers demonstrations, music and outdoor adventures. Also watch for special events for families. Wye Marsh offers good reasons to visit in all seasons!
The Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre welcomes you with an exhibit hall, video theatre, snack bar, gift shop, washrooms, large lunch room and cabins for group overnight accommodations.
