Description
The owners of ten spectacular town gardens welcomed more than 500 ACO Garden Tour visitors during this year’s edition of the biennial event. The gardens were chosen not only for their remarkable beauty, but also for their individuality in terms of style, age, size, and purpose.
An 1860s property on a larger corner lot, rich in white pine, butternut, walnut, and Norway spruce along with recent stone features allowed for shaded walks on the splendid summer’s day, while elsewhere, beautifully designed and maintained gardens, some formal and terraced, and another replete with “garden rooms,” offered varied responses to historical and modern ideas of gardening. A favourite with visitors was the exuberant space which serves as an outdoor extension to the family home of one of Port Hope’s finest artists.
All of the owners, so generous in allowing access to these private spaces, responded enthusiastically and with pleasure to questions from an engaged public.
The event was a perfect experience for garden-lovers of all kinds.
